The competition was in search of a solution that would remediate the water and natural wetlands, as well as bring back a mixed use into the area for a wide use of activities.
A competition entry. An area of Beaufort, South Carolina that once thrived and was full of vibrant culture, over the years became blighted and overlooked. The project sought to liven the area by adding more density into the various vacant lots--bringing more pedestrians into the Northwestern Quadrant.
A semester long project, that focused on a 250 acre site that currently sits vacant. Our design goal was to create a community for adult-focused user groups. Within the project, we were asked to maintain the existing wetland and to incorporate them into our design. The design solution, was to incorporate the wetlands throughout the site, connecting them with a greenway. The site addresses the concerns for retail space, as well as residential and business space.
